Since I ended the fall with a winning record with Zerkova (5/1), I decided I would get the Conquest colossal. However, one thing that always bothered me about the Conquest was that it didn’t have any axes. I actually prepared this about a year ago when the Conquest was announced, and picked up a couple of extreme axes from the Privateer Press store. The result is the model below (not at all painted, but ready at least to show):

Gun Carriage
A couple of weeks ago, I sat down and decided that I was going to paint my Gun Carriage – the Khador battle engine. I was fully aware of its size, but I was somewhat unprepared for all the little details that Privateer Press had managed to fit into that large size, so it took me quite a bit longer than I expected to finish.
Theme List Cards
A couple of weeks ago, I was poking a bit at my software to create Warmachine lists, and ended up on a tangent about a nice way to represent Warmachine Theme Lists. In particular, I wanted something that would be easy and convenient to bring to the table – quite unlike their current form which exists only in the Forces of Warmachine books or spread out over a number of No Quarters. Since I needed to brush up on my Strange Eons skills for some Dune updates, I decided it was well worth my time to make a plugin to create Theme Lists Cards, so I did.
Zerkova – Lady of War
I decided recently that I wanted to really spend some time with a single Khador warcaster – learn the strengths, weaknesses, and get a good understanding of the caster’s play style. The eventual goal is to put together a bit of a writeup about what I think of the caster where I can speak with some authority about it. Granted, I’ve got a limited meta, but I still want to give it a go. The warcaster I plan to use for this experiment is Koldun Kommander Zerkova.
Building Dune
Over the last couple of months, I have been working on a print-and-play copy of the 1979 Avalon Hill Dune Board Game. I finished it up last week, and promptly sent it off to my best and oldest friend John for his birthday. However, I did get a few pictures (and, of course, I still have all of the printables), and I wanted to take the time to talk a bit about all the things that went into this build, especially as it is my first complete print-and-play board game.
Spreadsheets and Databases – Part 3: Warmachine
I got into Warmachine a few years ago, mostly because I really liked the models. As I’ve mentioned to everyone I play sci-fi games with, I really enjoy dreadnaughts, and Warmachine is a game all about dreadnaughts. I also really like the game because of its focus on smaller scale – a small game can be no more than a warcaster and a couple of warjacks, which makes putting together a list and getting it somewhere so much easier. I also found that I really liked the card to store all the information about a model, and, as a result mostly ended up using that to create armies.

Spreadsheets and Databases – Part 2: Warhammer 40K
I’ve been playing Warhammer 40K now for a few years, with my main activity being army building. That may seem a bit lame, but I find myself enjoying collecting, assembling, organizing, and painting an army somewhat more than I do actually playing the game. However, I do find that I have missed our Thanksgiving Apocalypse game, as it used to give me better opportunity to put the “organizing” part to work, which was always a lot of fun for me. When I built my first initial armies, I used spreadsheets, like many others, but, for me, it became very quickly apparent that Warhammer 40K really needs a database if you want a tool to do the heavy lifting for you.

Spreadsheets and Databases – Part 1: EvE Online
Since I started playing EvE Six years ago, I have been a fan of spreadsheets. In fact, I never really gave Excel a second look until I started playing EvE, which, thinking back, is rather crazy in it’s own right. As I’ve gotten more proficient with Excel, and making it do the things that I want it to, I’m starting to bump into some of its limitations, both as an organizational tool and a number-crunching tool. This blog series is about the migration of some of my more complicated spreadsheets to databases, and, as a first look, I thought I would use my EvE Online spreadsheets – the main reason I have become so proficient in Excel in the first place.

More Magnetized Machines
The Kodiak is one of my favorite Khador ‘Jacks, and I’ve always been a bit bummed that I only had one. Sure, I could always buy another, but I recently decided to take a different tack, and bought the bits required to magnetize them to my existing heavy warjack frames. As a bonus, I also finally finished the magnetization of the Decimator/Demolisher/Spriggan kit – pictures after the jump.
Excited About Role Playing Again
While I was listening to Gamerstable this week, they mentioned the Werewolf: the Apocalypse 20th Anniversary Edition kickstarter. This really got me excited about role-playing again, as I remember “the good old days” of the World of Darkness, and having time to get together with friends and play a good, solid, storytelling game.
