I just happened to be looking over my last warhammer post, and realized that my army has changed quite a bit since then. At that point, I was very optimistic about how things were going, though, in looking back, I wasn’t nearly optimistic enough. I now have two armies in the works: Space Wolves and Daemonhunters. I won’t go into quite as much detail this time around, but I felt it was worth noting the status.
First, my Space Wolf troops haven’t changed that much – I have one full squad of Blood Claws and Grey Hunters all painted up, and a second with just a little modding left (waiting to get some bits) but they are already based so they can be fielded. My last squad of Grey Hunters is still sortof a mishmash, but I hope to put some work in on them as well. I’ve got planned a new Blood Claw squad to polish off my Space Wolf troop choices (75 troops models!) and with that I should be prepped and ready for the Apocalypse game this Thanksgiving.
I also got a new squad of Wolf Scouts all put together and ready to go, and figured out what to do with the two models I had left – I made them Wolf Guard (in scout armor). Not sure why I didn’t think of it earlier (probably because I figured pewter models would be harder to mod), but I put some time in and got them looking cooler than the average scout. At any rate, that puts me at two scout squads: one with heavy and rapid-fire weapons (sniper rifles, bolters, and plasma guns), and the other with assault weapons (bolt/plasma pistols, melta gun, power weapons).
Now, while I haven’t done much with my other stuff recently, I do have plans to get a bunch more tanks in about a week – Ian and I are going in on the Space Marines Strike Force. Ian is taking the Tactical Squads, and I am holding onto the tanks and the elites (Command Squad and Captain – planned conversion into Wolf Guard Leaders and/or Wolf Lords). That’ll give me the cheap tanks I need to fill out my heavy support (Vindicator, Whirlwind) and give me another Land Raider. I have plans to convert the Land Raider into a Redeemer with Grey Knight stuff (Incinerators and Psycannons), and probably one of the Rhinos into a Predator to round out my tank selection a little bit more.
My last new thing is a new Land Speeder. I built it with a heavy bolter and assault cannon, then modded my other one with missile launchers. I’ve named them Head Shredder and Blob Lobber (pilot: Bob Loblaw) for a bit of flavor. The goal is to get two more in the near future (Tank Spanker, and Bug Buster), but we’ll see what happens.
On the Daemonhunters side, I have two squads of Grey Knights. At this point, they’re a bit anemic (6 models each), but I do want to fill them out before too much longer. They’re based, and I have a definite paint scheme in mind, but that’s slightly lower on my priority (ok, so, my proposal is at the top, but that’s another post).
The only other Daemonhunters units I have are Coteaz and an Inquisitor I scavanged from my old Dungeons and Dragons miniatures. They both have (nearly full) retinues which is cool, but they seriously need painted before they look really awesome. Soon, I hope to have a Grey Knights Dreadnought, from ForgeWorld, which will be nice come Apocalypse time.
In the interim, Jessa has been playing the Grey Knights a bit, so I really want to get them filled out a bit more so that they are a reasonable force to play. My first goal (after filling out the Grey Knight squads) is to get Brother-Captain Stern and some Grey Knight Terminators. Then, I may paint a rhino in their colors and see what happens.
For everything I’ve got, check out my army lists here and here. Next post I’ll try to talk a bit about my planned Apocalypse formations, and maybe post some pictures with my new spiffy camera (see, all these things to talk about, if only I had just a little more time)!
