Warhammer League – Week 4

This week in Warhammer we escalated to 1000 point games with additional allowances of named characters (see if you can guess what I brought).  It was also time to increase our board size to 6’x4′, and, for me at least, play a tandem match.  I was super-excited about this game because I was going to be playing a tandem match with Brooke – my melee centric dreadnoughts backed by her Adeptus Mechanicus gunline promised to be really fun.

Our lists and a report of the battle, after the jump.

and

This match started out with the orcs charging down the middle while a couple of units of Genestealers headed our way in a pair of Chimeras.  Luckily, their movement put them into range of Brooke’s guns and they started shooting.  We took first blood as Brooke took a unit of boyz on bikes, while I set up most of my dreadnoughts to accept the charge.  I had luckily placed my dreadnought with multi-melta near the oncoming Chimeras so he walked over and took a pot-shot as we got started.

The next turn though, the orks got to us and started wreaking havoc.  Their speed gave them an advantage and a couple of the trikes made it past my line of dreadnoughts to engage the Kastelan Robots and one of the Onager Dunecrawlers.  That one robot went down was actually valuable as it freed up the second from being stuck in melee during our turn.  Still, I ended up losing two of my dreadnoughts, including Murderfang, so we had to strike back hard.  We did though as our heavy weapons from the Dunecrawler and Bjorn took out two bikes and the Robots diced up some remaining grots.  In the assault phase, my melta-wielding dreadnought busted up one of the chimeras while Jarleiv engaged the ork warboss – that warboss hit Jarleiv hard, but Jarleiv hit back harder mashing him in a single round.

When the rest of the genestealers infiltrated on round two, they had us backed into a ball, so, while it was difficult for them to get to the targets in the middle, that didn’t stop them from surrounding us.  Still, they had a hard time dealing much in the way of appreciable damage, though they did destroy my melta-wielding dreadnought (Bjorn held strong though).  From this point on, it was mostly a slug-fest of us trying to deal with a lot of them in melee (which we were less equipped to do).  Still, the Cybernetica Datasmith proved surprisingly useful with his Gamma Pistol – that little guy packs a punch!

It took us a couple more turns to mop up the genestealers and the last two psykers, but it was a fun game overall.  I enjoyed the chance to do a tandem game, though I don’t think I would do so at any higher point value (except, you know, apocalypse) – the table seemed crowded as it was!
