When week two of the league came around, I decided I wanted to experiment a bit more. Notably, we were on a planet where the open terrain was hostile, but only to non-characters. So, to gain a strategic advantage, I built a list consisting only of characters, and ran a Supreme Command Detachment.

This week my opponent was playing Genestealer Cultists, which was a bit of a challenge on account of their high wound count and excellent saves. Luckily, the Librarian’s ability to Smite my opponents with Mortal Wounds was very helpful and trimmed a few of them off early. Once they engaged my dreadnoughts in melee though, it was pretty terrifying – in a single round they tore through both my Librarian and Jarleiv.
I was able to deal with the remainder of the anti-tank cultists with one of my remaining Chaplains, but it was really just bad luck on my opponent’s part that turned the match around for me. His hero was also equipped to tear through my dreadnoughts, but he had the misfortune of not being able to come in on the table edge he wanted, so was a whole turn behind in engaging me in melee. He managed to catch my Multi-Melta equipped Chaplain, but was far away enough from my Assault Cannon Chaplain that I was able to wait out ’till the end of the match for a win on victory points.
