This week, I got the chance to bring Harry up to speed with the Journeyman league, while also getting some painting in. Harry had just cracked open the Circle Orboros battle box this week, so I dropped down to my zero point list and lent him my already assembled metal models so we could get a game in. Warmachine Journeyman – Week 3
Week three marks the beginning of the escalation of the Journeyman League at the Rogue’s Roost. This week, players are allowed to bring up to ten additional points in warjacks or warbeasts. This is a tough choice for a lot of armies, because it’s tricky to fit – ten points is not a lot, and it has to be something that will help the army at both a few points (for the early weeks of the Journeyman), but also be worthwhile later at higher point games (for the later weeks of the Journeyman).
For this reason, I chose to take the Ghordson Basher – one of my favorites. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 3
Warmachine Journeyman – Week 2
Week 2 was pretty slow for the Warmachine Journeyman league, but I managed to get in two games, and get a model painted, so overall a success. This week was still zero point battle box games, and I played both games with my brother, William. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 2
Warmachine Journeyman – Week 1
The Journeyman league finished up its first week last weekend, and I had a ton of fun. We decided to do two-week blocks so that there would be more time to play games and get some painting in. So far, I managed to get in 3 games with an overall record of 0 and 3. Hopefully the second half of week 1 treats me better – all the gory details after the fold. Warmachine Journeyman
Last weekend, I started a Warmachine Journeyman league at my local shop, The Rogue’s Roost. This is a bit of new ground for me, as I’ve not done any kind of competitive Warmachine play in the past, but I’m hoping that it’s casual enough for my tastes. To start, I’ve decided I’m going to take a shot at running the Rhulic Mercenaries starter list. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman
Dice Boxes
Whenever I’m at Hobby Lobby, I take a walk through the wooden box section and see if anything really catches my eye. I personally have no woodworking skills or experience, but my father was a magician when it comes to wood stuff, and I’ve seen lots of other people do some pretty amazing things from plain beginnings. A couple of months ago, I found a wooden hinged box that I somehow imagined I could make into a decent looking dice box. So, with my brother’s graduation and cousin’s birthday upcoming, I thought I would give it a shot.
A couple of pictures of the finished products after the jump. Continue reading Dice Boxes
Warmachine and Hordes New Editions
Last week, Privateer Press announced new editions of their Warmachine and Hordes game lines with a fair amount of fanfare. While there hasn’t been a lot of information out yet, I am pretty excited by what I have heard, so I wanted to take a moment to post my early thoughts. What Am I Doing Besides Blogging?
It turns out I have a bit of project mania. I’ve got a lot of ideas for projects, some of which I start, and a number of small ones I have finished. But, it turns out, the last thing I typically think to do is to write about those projects. The struggle here is simple – why write about a project when I could be working on it (or the next one)?
The difficulty is simply that my writing and my project time have typically been the same. As a result, I was forced to make that choice every time I sat down to work on my projects. My hope is that this may be mitigated by writing on the bus. Now, these two are not coupled, when I’m on the bus, I can’t really work on my other projects! So, here is a brief outline of some things that I’ve been working on:
The Butcher’s Hound
Since I ended the fall with a winning record with Zerkova (5/1), I decided I would get the Conquest colossal. However, one thing that always bothered me about the Conquest was that it didn’t have any axes. I actually prepared this about a year ago when the Conquest was announced, and picked up a couple of extreme axes from the Privateer Press store. The result is the model below (not at all painted, but ready at least to show):
Gun Carriage
A couple of weeks ago, I sat down and decided that I was going to paint my Gun Carriage – the Khador battle engine. I was fully aware of its size, but I was somewhat unprepared for all the little details that Privateer Press had managed to fit into that large size, so it took me quite a bit longer than I expected to finish.
