A while back, my brother gave me an Eldar Dire Avenger to assemble and paint for his army. It took me longer than it should have to get it back to him, but I did manage it in early January. I, of course, took pictures, but for some reason I’m just now getting around to getting them here on my blog: Continue reading A Lone Dire Avenger

Thanksgiving Apocalypse 2017
This year, the Thanksgiving Apocalypse match was Ian (Adeptus Mechanicus, Sisters of Silence, and Adeptus Custodes) and I (Imperial Knights and dreadnoughts) vs Uncle Clayton (Necrons) and Cody (Chaos Space Marines). Unfortunately, Uncle Barry wasn’t able to make it this year, so his Orcs ended up on the sidelines, but, with only the four of us, it was actually a pretty streamlined game and a ton of fun. A Lone Fire Warrior
A few weeks ago, one of my friends from the Rogue’s Roost gave each of the regulars at the shop one of his Tau Fire Warrior models to paint. The idea, as I interpreted it, was that when he got them all back, he would have a truly unique Fire Warrior squad (as each model would be painted differently) and have a bit of a memento from all of us. Thanksgiving Apocalypse 2016
Yet again this year, as has become tradition, the Warhammer 40k players of the family descended on The Upholstery Shop in Austin for the annual Apocalypse game. This year, I brought my Space Wolves reinforced by as many walkers as I had in my collection. I brought 13 in total: Bjorn the Fell-handed, Murderfang, 3 Imperial Knights, 3 Venerable Dreadnoughts, an Ironclad Dreadnought, and 4 standard Dreadnoughts. I supplemented this with only a couple of troops, a bunch of Terminators, a few fast attacks, and a bunch of characters including Leeman Russ and his Wulfen. Continue reading Thanksgiving Apocalypse 2016
Me and Competitive Games
I realized something about myself some time ago – my brain is not wired for direct competition. For many, it seems, there is a general feedback loop about competition that looks like this: Continue reading Me and Competitive Games
Dice Boxes
Whenever I’m at Hobby Lobby, I take a walk through the wooden box section and see if anything really catches my eye. I personally have no woodworking skills or experience, but my father was a magician when it comes to wood stuff, and I’ve seen lots of other people do some pretty amazing things from plain beginnings. A couple of months ago, I found a wooden hinged box that I somehow imagined I could make into a decent looking dice box. So, with my brother’s graduation and cousin’s birthday upcoming, I thought I would give it a shot.
A couple of pictures of the finished products after the jump. Continue reading Dice Boxes
Imperial Knight Assembled
For Christmas this year, the family that I play Warhammer 40k with every year (Cody, Ian, and uncle Clayton) pitched together to get me an Imperial Knight kit. As the epitome of the walker, this has been on my list for a while, but I’ve never managed to pull the trigger. Getting one from these guys though, was exceptionally special, and was pretty amazing. So… …I managed to get it built, and there is one big picture after the jump. Continue reading Imperial Knight Assembled
Leeman Russ Unbound
You didn’t actually think I’d work on painting the Wulfen Guard without also painting Leeman Russ did you? This is my second shot at designing, building, and painting a Leeman Russ model, and while his rules aren’t done yet, I’m happy with how the rest turned out.
As usual, pictures after the jump. Continue reading Leeman Russ Unbound
The Wulfen Guard
Once I got the basic Kingdom Death: Monster stuff ready to go for my game at the shop, it was time to break out my paints and do some painting for my Thanksgiving Warhammer 40K army. Specifically, I recently added three new werewolves to Leeman Russ’s Wulfen Guard unit, so I wanted to get them painted up and looking sharp.
Pictures of the full unit after the jump. Continue reading The Wulfen Guard
The Big Game
Every year, those of us in the family who play Warhammer 40k get together at my Uncle’s Upholstery Shop in Austin, Colorado and play the big game. The goal is two-fold: to get together and spend some family time together, and to pull out all the stops and play Warhammer 40k, all day, with as many models as we want. In previous editions, this was called Apocalypse, for us, it’s the Thanksgiving Apocalypse. Continue reading The Big Game
