I recently caught an episode of PBS’s Game/Show called, “Are You Weird if You Play as the Opposite Sex?“. In it, the host talked about the various reasons people play games as people of the opposite sex, which started to make me think more about why my main character in Guild Wars is a woman. Continue reading Playing a Woman in a Fantasy Game

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak
I recently finished my play-through of the campaign for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. This game was not on my wish list very long, only because I grabbed it the first time I saw that it was on sale. I’ve always been a fan of Homeworld, and the thought that this might scratch the old Homeworld itch was a high expectation.
At the end of the day… …I can’t say as it did. Continue reading Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak
Warmachine Journeyman – Week 9
Another odd week, another escalation week! This is the week I’ve been waiting for, as I finally get to add in my big model – the Hammerfall Siege Crawler. When I first started thinking about how I wanted to escalate a Rhulic list, this was what I wanted to do… …And then I found out a couple of weeks in that the model wasn’t actually available yet. I struggled with this for quite a while, and finally decided that I would proxy the model with the Rhulic Colossal instead.
That being said, here is my list for this two week block: Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 9
Campaign Board Games
Over the last couple of years, I have noticed a spike in the number of board games offering some form of campaign play. Specifically, almost every cooperative game that I’ve purchased or have been looking toward has been built with this in mind. For some (such as Pandemic Legacy and Kingdom Death: Monster), this is core to the gameplay and, as such, don’t really support a one-shot style. Others (like Galaxy Defenders and the Lord of the Rings LCG) don’t directly require campaign play, but have that capability and I want to play it that way. Continue reading Campaign Board Games
Me and Competitive Games
I realized something about myself some time ago – my brain is not wired for direct competition. For many, it seems, there is a general feedback loop about competition that looks like this: Continue reading Me and Competitive Games
Warmachine Journeyman
Last weekend, I started a Warmachine Journeyman league at my local shop, The Rogue’s Roost. This is a bit of new ground for me, as I’ve not done any kind of competitive Warmachine play in the past, but I’m hoping that it’s casual enough for my tastes. To start, I’ve decided I’m going to take a shot at running the Rhulic Mercenaries starter list. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman
What hunting was like before Supernatural
I happened to be looking through some of my old files the other day, and I found these old commercials for the Hunter: The Reckoning game for the X-BOX.
On the one hand, this game came out in 2002 for the XBOX, which makes me think that console generations are a lot more spread out than they seem. On the other hand, this game came out 14 years ago, which is a bit frightening because the trailers are very hard to find on youtube (in fact, I couldn’t find the judgement one at all).
Dice Boxes
Whenever I’m at Hobby Lobby, I take a walk through the wooden box section and see if anything really catches my eye. I personally have no woodworking skills or experience, but my father was a magician when it comes to wood stuff, and I’ve seen lots of other people do some pretty amazing things from plain beginnings. A couple of months ago, I found a wooden hinged box that I somehow imagined I could make into a decent looking dice box. So, with my brother’s graduation and cousin’s birthday upcoming, I thought I would give it a shot.
A couple of pictures of the finished products after the jump. Continue reading Dice Boxes
Dune Progress
I have lately been making a fair amount of progress on my copy of the Dune board game. The Spice Harvest components are complete (though not printed), and I have lately been spending most of my time on The Duel board. Continue reading Dune Progress
Kingdom Death: Dragon King
When I was thinking about the posts that I might make over the course of 2016, I didn’t really plan on this blog becoming a Kingdom Death: Monster blog. But, I’ve got one more (for now) set of monster pictures to post. This is the last of the monsters that we’re fighting for the shop settlement, and, since it was the Dragon King, I wanted to go ahead and put together the other models that came on the main sprue – the Dragon King in human form and the Dragon People (for the Dragon King campaign).
As usual, pictures after the jump. Continue reading Kingdom Death: Dragon King
