I recently finished Ibb and Obb with my friend John as part of our regular Saturday morning gaming. This one kind of came out of nowhere for me, as it’s hard to decode anything about the name. It really delivers on the 2D puzzle-platforming genre though, and the two player cooperative element is really well polished.
Over the weekend, I finished playing the main story for Grim Dawn. I started this up again mainly because I found myself with enough time to make the next leg of my journey, and then I remembered how much fun it was. I subsequently set aside the blocks of time to play it, and finish up each piece of the game.
I recently played an Exit: The Game scenario, and I noticed that I had accidentally stumbled into playing a legacy game. While the game itself was fun, it got me thinking about why this particular game mechanic annoys me so much, and, of course, the answer is much longer than can fit in a single sentence.
There shouldn’t be any spoilers after the jump, but you might find out how certain types of things work in certain legacy games… Continue reading Legacy Board Games→
Well, here it is, the last week of 2017, so it’s time to kick off my retrospective of the year. All things considered, this year was pretty decent to me if a bit on the rough side. I made some pretty significant life changes, and managed to come out the other side in good spirits.
A couple weekends ago, I finished building all of the monsters and nemeses from Kingdom Death: Monster. This has been on my backlog for a while, but since I didn’t need the models for the expansions my current campaign wasn’t using, they fell a bit further down on my backlog. Putting together the models for my Grymkin, however, made me decide it was time to get the creepy dudes together.
I recently had a bunch of armies for Pocket Tactics printed for a special game day at the shop. There are a lot of things I like about Pocket Tactics, including the simplicity, game length, and ability to mix-and-match a game with lots of factions. Continue reading Pocket Tactics→
As part of my New Year’s Resolutions, I decided I was going to get some work done on my own game this year and then demo it. To help me get it right, I decided that I wanted to demo it in stages, so last weekend, I demoed my movement rules. This is probably the trickiest part to get right, because I want to have a game with Newtonian physics. Continue reading Demoing a Game→
A few of my friends have been raving about Stellaris for a while now, so when the new expansion launched, and it was on sale, I decided I would pick it up. I’ve been playing it for about two weeks now, typically in the evenings, with a couple of longer games on the weekends. Even still, I have yet to complete a game, and while my opinion of the game is still open, there are some things that I feel confident saying I like, and some other things I can say I dislike about the game. Continue reading Stellaris→
A handful of the guys at the shop recently pitched together and bought me a copy of Netrunner: New Angeles. I’ve had my eye on this game for a while, but never picked it up because while it looked really interesting to me, I didn’t think I would be able to get enough other interest to fill out the four player minimum. That being said, the day I got it, we got a six player game in, so I think it may have the interest. Continue reading Netrunner: New Angeles→
2016 was a pretty busy year for me, especially in all the ways that I didn’t set goals around. This post is going to be about the gaming stuff that I did this year – if you’re looking for how I did on my New Year’s resolutions, you’ll have to wait until next year! Continue reading Looking Back at 2016 – Gaming→
Thoughts are stripped of their texture to form words that they might be colored by the mind of another.
