I recently caught an episode of PBS’s Game/Show called, “Are You Weird if You Play as the Opposite Sex?“. In it, the host talked about the various reasons people play games as people of the opposite sex, which started to make me think more about why my main character in Guild Wars is a woman. A Lone Fire Warrior
A few weeks ago, one of my friends from the Rogue’s Roost gave each of the regulars at the shop one of his Tau Fire Warrior models to paint. The idea, as I interpreted it, was that when he got them all back, he would have a truly unique Fire Warrior squad (as each model would be painted differently) and have a bit of a memento from all of us. Thanksgiving Apocalypse 2016
Yet again this year, as has become tradition, the Warhammer 40k players of the family descended on The Upholstery Shop in Austin for the annual Apocalypse game. This year, I brought my Space Wolves reinforced by as many walkers as I had in my collection. I brought 13 in total: Bjorn the Fell-handed, Murderfang, 3 Imperial Knights, 3 Venerable Dreadnoughts, an Ironclad Dreadnought, and 4 standard Dreadnoughts. I supplemented this with only a couple of troops, a bunch of Terminators, a few fast attacks, and a bunch of characters including Leeman Russ and his Wulfen. Guild Wars 2 Map Completion
I recently completed the Guild Wars 2 achievement of completely exploring the entirety of the core Tyrian map with my main character. This is something that I have been working on somewhat in the background since I started playing, and have recently kicked into high gear to get through the last few things on the map. Warmachine Journeyman – Wrap up
This week, we wrapped up the Journeyman league by awarding the destroyer award (for winning), creator award (for best painted battlegroup) and journeyman award (for best sport). While there we no Warmachine Journeyman games this week, I have pictures of all the submitted battlegroups and my own panel of rank patches after the jump. Warmachine Journeyman – Week 12
This week was the final week of the Journeyman league, so it was the last chance to get in points via painting or winning to get a shot at the Destroyer Award. At 75 points, it’s a bit harder to get in multiple games, so I only planned on getting one game in, and, of course, I wanted to square off against Ian. This game had a lot riding on it – if he beat me, he would definitely clinch the Destroyer Award with three or four Destroyer points. On the other hand, if I won, I would have a good shot at getting a third Destroyer point and tying up the race to the finish.

Warmachine Journeyman – Week 11
Week 11 is the last of the escalation weeks, so my list has reached its final form. I’m a point short of the full 75 points, and I was really wishing I had about 4 more points to round out my Ghordson ‘jacks, but the artillery did look like it would fit into my list the best.
My full list after the jump: Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 11
Warmachine Journeyman – Week 10
After playing a massive two-vs-two game last week, everyone at the shop decided to take a break this week. Rather than get any games in for the league (or, really, any games in at all), we all just pulled up a chair to the counter shared our favorite music videos and chatted about whatever came to mind. This was just the thing that I needed to cap my weekend (after the excitement of the week), so it was a very welcome change of pace.
However, just because I didn’t get any gaming in, I did manage to get Brun Cragback and Lug painted – pictures after the jump. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 10
Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak
I recently finished my play-through of the campaign for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. This game was not on my wish list very long, only because I grabbed it the first time I saw that it was on sale. I’ve always been a fan of Homeworld, and the thought that this might scratch the old Homeworld itch was a high expectation.
At the end of the day… …I can’t say as it did. Continue reading Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak
Warmachine Journeyman – Week 9
Another odd week, another escalation week! This is the week I’ve been waiting for, as I finally get to add in my big model – the Hammerfall Siege Crawler. When I first started thinking about how I wanted to escalate a Rhulic list, this was what I wanted to do… …And then I found out a couple of weeks in that the model wasn’t actually available yet. I struggled with this for quite a while, and finally decided that I would proxy the model with the Rhulic Colossal instead.
That being said, here is my list for this two week block: Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 9
