I realized something about myself some time ago – my brain is not wired for direct competition. For many, it seems, there is a general feedback loop about competition that looks like this: Continue reading Me and Competitive Games

Warmachine Journeyman – Week 4
This week, I got the chance to bring Harry up to speed with the Journeyman league, while also getting some painting in. Harry had just cracked open the Circle Orboros battle box this week, so I dropped down to my zero point list and lent him my already assembled metal models so we could get a game in. Dream: The Engineering Center
For some reason, I am giving John and Jennifer a tour of the Engineering Center on the University’s main campus. I started out saying, as we walked down the first set of stairs by the main entrance, “I know these corridors are confusing, but I know them very well since that I spent so much time here.” And yet, I know that they are doing construction, so there would be some things changed since I had last navigated the halls. Warmachine Journeyman – Week 3
Week three marks the beginning of the escalation of the Journeyman League at the Rogue’s Roost. This week, players are allowed to bring up to ten additional points in warjacks or warbeasts. This is a tough choice for a lot of armies, because it’s tricky to fit – ten points is not a lot, and it has to be something that will help the army at both a few points (for the early weeks of the Journeyman), but also be worthwhile later at higher point games (for the later weeks of the Journeyman).
For this reason, I chose to take the Ghordson Basher – one of my favorites. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 3
The Darkling Wind
In reading the Chronicles of the High Inquest, I always end up looking up this image at various points during my read through. Continue reading The Darkling Wind
Warmachine Journeyman – Week 2
Week 2 was pretty slow for the Warmachine Journeyman league, but I managed to get in two games, and get a model painted, so overall a success. This week was still zero point battle box games, and I played both games with my brother, William. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 2
New Addition
I recently decided that it was time for me to get my own car. At 34 years old, I’d neither shopped for, purchased, nor owned a car, so this was all new territory for me. In starting to do some research for this purchase, my big hurdle has been vocabulary and metrics, specifically I’m trying to translate, “It duz wat I want” to specific horse-power, torque, and turn radius, as well as interior features like dash indicators and that whole interface in the center. Continue reading New Addition
Warmachine Journeyman – Week 1
The Journeyman league finished up its first week last weekend, and I had a ton of fun. We decided to do two-week blocks so that there would be more time to play games and get some painting in. So far, I managed to get in 3 games with an overall record of 0 and 3. Hopefully the second half of week 1 treats me better – all the gory details after the fold. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 1
Data Center Move
Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been working on moving our data center at work. This was quite the project in planning (with moving deadlines and contingencies) but, in the end, the planning paid off – this project was very smooth. Continue reading Data Center Move
Warmachine Journeyman
Last weekend, I started a Warmachine Journeyman league at my local shop, The Rogue’s Roost. This is a bit of new ground for me, as I’ve not done any kind of competitive Warmachine play in the past, but I’m hoping that it’s casual enough for my tastes. To start, I’ve decided I’m going to take a shot at running the Rhulic Mercenaries starter list. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman
