I recently finished my play-through of the campaign for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. This game was not on my wish list very long, only because I grabbed it the first time I saw that it was on sale. I’ve always been a fan of Homeworld, and the thought that this might scratch the old Homeworld itch was a high expectation.
Another odd week, another escalation week! This is the week I’ve been waiting for, as I finally get to add in my big model – the Hammerfall Siege Crawler. When I first started thinking about how I wanted to escalate a Rhulic list, this was what I wanted to do… …And then I found out a couple of weeks in that the model wasn’t actually available yet. I struggled with this for quite a while, and finally decided that I would proxy the model with the Rhulic Colossal instead.
A couple of weeks ago, I had a vacation planned – I was going to go to Yellowstone with some friends for a week of camping, hiking, and doing a small amount of touristy stuff. Unfortunately, the part of my vacation that involved going to Yellowstone got cancelled, so instead, I had a week off… …And no plans. Continue reading Taking a Vacation (Is Hard)→
Last week I didn’t win a single game, so I was really torn this week as to whether I wanted to change up my list a bit or nail it down and move forward. I had the chance to do this because our shop is doing something a little different with our Journeyman league: Since we are doing two-week blocks with especially new players, it made sense to allow everyone to experiment during the first week of the block and then lock everything down during the second week. After thinking it over, and looking at my block five and six options, I decided to stick with it. Also, I would have been really disappointed to let go of Thor. Over the last couple of years, I have noticed a spike in the number of board games offering some form of campaign play. Specifically, almost every cooperative game that I’ve purchased or have been looking toward has been built with this in mind. For some (such as Pandemic Legacy and Kingdom Death: Monster), this is core to the gameplay and, as such, don’t really support a one-shot style. Others (like Galaxy Defenders and the Lord of the Rings LCG) don’t directly require campaign play, but have that capability and I want to play it that way. Continue reading Campaign Board Games→
Week seven of the Journeyman league is a big week – not only is it the largest single escalation week (increasing the number of points by 25 to a total of 50), but it also allows a warcaster/warlock swap. This allows for a lot of cool stuff and the lists that people are bringing this week are pretty neat. My list, on the other hand, looks pretty lackluster, as I’m still saving up a few points for week nine (no spoilers, but you can probably guess). That being said, my list is just after the jump. I recently bought a new vehicle, and one of the things that surprised me was the need to break in the engine and drivetrain for the first thousand miles. The salesman that sold me the car mentioned that I shouldn’t bring it above 3,000 RPMs nor use the cruise control for very long trips during the first thousand miles so that the engine could effectively break in. Continue reading Breaking In My New Vehicle→
This week was a very busy week at the Rogue’s Roost, so I only got a single game in. However, I wasn’t expecting to get any Warmachine time in this week, so I was very happy to get what I got. My opponent was Harry and Megan, and I got the chance to play a full 25 point game against Circle Orboros: Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 6→
A friend of mine recently loaned me his copy of The Doomfarers of Coramonde by Brian Daley. This was relatively new ground for me as it was a book and author I had not heard anything about before, nor was it really on my to-read list. However, I was glad I gave it a shot, as it was a pretty enjoyable read and I wanted to share a few thoughts here on my blog. Continue reading The Doomfarers of Coramonde→
Week five is another escalation week, with the chance to add solos and units to the army. Since I’m playing Rhulic mercenaries, I jumped at the chance to add my favorite dwarf and his bear to my list: Brun Cragback and Lug. Continue reading Warmachine Journeyman – Week 5→
Thoughts are stripped of their texture to form words that they might be colored by the mind of another.
