A friend of mine asked during dinner the other night, “If you could live in any science fiction universe, which would it be, and why?” I struggled with this question for a lot of different reasons, mostly because I have read about a lot of different science fiction universes, but many of them do not completely flesh out what life is like for the common person. Looking Forward into 2017
Ok, the fact that you made it this far means you are actually interested in what I am planning for 2017. After all the looking back I’ve done in the last couple of weeks, it’s time to look forward, and try to figure out what I’m going to try to accomplish in the coming year. Continue reading Looking Forward into 2017
Looking Back at 2016 – Resolutions
Now that 2017 has arrived, I want to take one final look back at 2016, and see how I measured up to the goals that I set for myself in the first week of the year. Some seemed ambitious at the time, while others seemed like they would be easy pickings, but looking back, it was much more difficult to predict what would trip me up.
One thing about these goals – I’m going with a straight pass-fail. I either accomplished the goal, or not; I’m not giving myself any partial credit. Continue reading Looking Back at 2016 – Resolutions
Looking Back at 2016 – Life in General
2016 was a pretty busy year for me, especially in all the ways that I didn’t set goals around. This post is mostly going to be about that stuff (I’ll be posting about all my New Year’s resolutions first thing in the New Year). Continue reading Looking Back at 2016 – Life in General
Looking Back at 2016 – Gaming
2016 was a pretty busy year for me, especially in all the ways that I didn’t set goals around. This post is going to be about the gaming stuff that I did this year – if you’re looking for how I did on my New Year’s resolutions, you’ll have to wait until next year! Playing a Woman in a Fantasy Game
I recently caught an episode of PBS’s Game/Show called, “Are You Weird if You Play as the Opposite Sex?“. In it, the host talked about the various reasons people play games as people of the opposite sex, which started to make me think more about why my main character in Guild Wars is a woman. Continue reading Playing a Woman in a Fantasy Game
First Lensman
I recently finished reading First Lensman by E. E. “Doc” Smith and I found that, as a sci-fi space opera, I really enjoyed it. I read Triplanetary last year, but wasn’t able to continue reading the series because, even after doing a used bookstore circuit, I couldn’t find a copy of First Lensman anywhere. When I was looking for stuff to read earlier this year, I decided I would check online, and I found a nice anthology containing all the Lensman novels I picked it up and added the rest of the series to my queue. Continue reading First Lensman
The Future of Shopping
I heard the other day at work that Amazon would be opening physical stores. As my coworkers were talking about how they would work, I couldn’t help but think of this old e-Commerce commercial: Continue reading The Future of Shopping
Sharknado
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Jessa and I watched Sharknado. The thought for watching this was to watch something that was “so bad it’s good” and have a good laugh. In this sense, Sharknado… …Disappoints? I guess, to be fair, it was “so bad it was ok”, but it never hit the point of being excellently bad (like The Core or Red). In our watch through, I noticed some things that differed between a “so bad it’s good” movie and “so bad it’s ok” movie for me, so I thought I would write about them. Continue reading Sharknado
Life is Like a Pair of Cellists
I came across this video as I occasionally check to see what the 2Cellos are up to, as well as if Avicii has any new interesting videos out. Somehow, this hit the confluence of the two, and I found it quite enjoyable. Continue reading Life is Like a Pair of Cellists
