For the last week of the league, I had a bit of extra time, so I decided I would paint a big model – the Death Knell, the Grymkin battle engine.
This model took so long primarily because of the color palette needed to get all the different parts, though, of course, size and detail also played a big part (though, as I was painting it, I realized that this model really looks small on that 120mm base). I had a lot of fun learning new things about this model as I painted it too – the stack of corpses in the back includes a number of hollow men and dread rots, the horse’s exposed bones, the details on the driver, and the runes on the bell all make for a really interesting model.
Of course, the gremlins to the side were the part that I struggled the most with making look good. Just like the Gremlin Swarms, they are a single color without much to contrast them with (only their instruments and their eyes). Overall though, I felt like it turned out pretty good and was a good conclusion to my league painting.
