Yet again this year, as has become tradition, the Warhammer 40k players of the family descended on The Upholstery Shop in Austin for the annual Apocalypse game. This year, I brought my Space Wolves reinforced by as many walkers as I had in my collection. I brought 13 in total: Bjorn the Fell-handed, Murderfang, 3 Imperial Knights, 3 Venerable Dreadnoughts, an Ironclad Dreadnought, and 4 standard Dreadnoughts. I supplemented this with only a couple of troops, a bunch of Terminators, a few fast attacks, and a bunch of characters including Leeman Russ and his Wulfen.
This year, I was allied with Cody’s Chaos Space Marines and Keagan’s Renegade Guard against Ian and Uncle Clayton’s Tyranids and Uncle Barry’s Orks. This uneasy alliance was forged to allow us all egress from the planet that had been completely overrun by the hordes of bugs and orks.
Here are a few pictures of the event:
Overall, I had a good time. I felt like my list did what I wanted, and I had a lot of fun with the stuff that I fielded. Leeman Russ didn’t get to do much this game, so I plan on playing him more aggressively next time. My dreadnoughts did get a lot of action though, so that was cool. My plan for next year is to double-down on the walker idea and try to get a Space Wolf defiler put together, as well as add a Furioso Dreadnought to my mix. I’m also considering adding a Contemptor, Leviathan, and/or Deredeo Dreadnoughts, Cerastus Knights, or something bigger if I can fit it into my budget (we’ll see).
