Warmachine Journeyman – Week 9

Another odd week, another escalation week!  This is the week I’ve been waiting for, as I finally get to add in my big model – the Hammerfall Siege Crawler.  When I first started thinking about how I wanted to escalate a Rhulic list, this was what I wanted to do…  …And then I found out a couple of weeks in that the model wasn’t actually available yet.  I struggled with this for quite a while, and finally decided that I would proxy the model with the Rhulic Colossal instead.

That being said, here is my list for this two week block:

Daniel’s Khadwarves (62 pts)

  • General Ossrum (28 WJpts)
    • Ghordson Driller (10 pts)
    • Grundback Blaster (6 pts)
    • Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
    • Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
    • Wroughthammer Rockram (14 pts)
  • Brun Cragback (16 pts)
    • Lug
  • Hammerfall Siege Crawler (19 pts)
  • Thor Steinhammer (4 pts)
    • Ghordson Basher (9 pts)

As it turns out, my list is still a few points short, and I still don’t know what I’m going to do with it.  I thought about adding Dirty Meg or Colbie Sterling, but the thought of adding non-Rhulic models to the army chafed a bit.  So, instead, I’m leaving it for now, and may try to fill the gap later.

Since points were all over the map this week, instead of splitting off and doing regular games, we decided instead to do a big 2v2 game on the big round table.  Here’s how the lists shook out:

    • Devastator (14 pts)
    • Juggernaut (12 pts)

VS

The Sons of Iron was Garrett and I vs Ian (Cryx) and Oliver (Everblight) as The Dragonborn.  In my mind, it was an epic battle of savage nobles vs Eeeeevil and I was excited to see how it turned out.  Overall, I think we all played a bit conservatively – we spent a lot of points and effort protecting our objectives.  Now, that’s not to say that it wouldn’t have gone differently if we hadn’t done so (I’m sure someone would have found a way to snipe it if we hadn’t parked a large deterrent right in front), but it did mean that the Siege Crawler wasn’t really doing much and neither were the pirates and Black Ogrun.  Instead, Garrett’s Khador squared off against Ian’s Cryx, and I ended up faced off against Oliver’s Everblight.  Both sides of the battleground was really anyone’s game, Brun was taking a lot of hits, and Oliver’s Raek was ready to outflank my caster, while Garrett was pushing up against the Kraken, and hoping for just the right spread to help him outmaneuver the Cryxian glass cannons.  It was really Karchev’s feat turn that turned the tide of the battle – Garrett threw everything he had at the Kraken, decrying vengeance for lost battles…  …And just barely took it down.  Meanwhile, Ossrum’s battlegroup slowly took apart Vayl’s beasts (with a little help from Lug) and pushed her back.  We sealed victory by finally taking her out.

Overall, I enjoyed the game.  It was fun to see so many models on the table, and I was super-stoked knowing the the Sons of Iron is actually a legal 2-caster list similar to one I might someday build and run for fun.  This game put Garrett and I on even footing for this escalation block at one win each.
