Week seven of the Journeyman league is a big week – not only is it the largest single escalation week (increasing the number of points by 25 to a total of 50), but it also allows a warcaster/warlock swap. This allows for a lot of cool stuff and the lists that people are bringing this week are pretty neat. My list, on the other hand, looks pretty lackluster, as I’m still saving up a few points for week nine (no spoilers, but you can probably guess). That being said, my list is just after the jump.
Daniel’s Khadwarves (43 pts)
- General Ossrum (28 WJpts)
- Ghordson Driller (10 pts)
- Grundback Blaster (6 pts)
- Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
- Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
- Wroughthammer Rockram (14 pts)
- Brun Cragback (16 pts)
- Lug
- Thor Steinhammer (4 pts)
- Ghordson Basher (9 pts)
This week, I managed to get in two games, and they were really quite tough. My first was against Garrett’s Khador army. I love Garrett’s list, and you can probably see why just by looking at it:

This game was hands-down the best game of Warmachine I’ve played this edition (and then some). It was all about the ‘jacks trashing other ‘jacks until one of us came out on top. The setup for this game was pretty normal – both of us running to get into position. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of screening with my heavy warjacks, and even on my feat turn with +3 armor, Garrett was able to pound through with Karchev’s extra die on melee damage. Once all my heavies were off the field, Garrett was able to really take apart my army – my last ditch effort was to attempt to assassinate with Lug. And I would have been successful too, if it hadn’t been for that lone Man-O-War – he managed to deal just a bit too much damage to Lug as he charged through the Man-O-War’s melee range… …And Karchev survived to have his heavy warjack force bring down Ossrum. A close match, and a great one!
My next game was against Ian. He was bringing out the big guns this time around, and managed to fit the Kraken into his list! He also swapped out warcasters, bringing in Mortenebra, and made ready to mix it up with my Khadwarves.

Ian’s “Release the Kraken!” Cryx (48 pts)
- Master Necrotech Mortenebra & Deryliss (24 WJpts)
- Deathripper (6 pts)
- Kraken (36 pts)
- Reaper (13)
- Slayer (10)
- Black Ogrun Boarding Party (minimum unit – 7 pts)
Ian set up with a flanking formation, while I set up to go in guns blazing. On turn one, however, I made a critical mistake that really cost me this game. In particular, I again screened with my heavy warjacks as I was worried about his Black Ogrun pulling my light ‘jacks and giving them a pounding before I could effectively use them. This was a critical mistake because all of my ‘jacks (including my little gun bunnies) have Sturdy, so they can’t be pulled around. I really should have been screening with my light jacks… …As a result, he was able to effectively bring his clouds to bear and march up the field with the Kraken. While I was able to block it for a while, I was unable to charge or really shoot at anything (with the exception of the Ogrun, which I pummeled). Eventually, the Cryxian force was upon me and Ossrum fell – this put me a 0/2 this week, not a good start!
