On Thursday, Stetson and played another game of Warmachine. We knew a bit more of the rules this time, and much fun was had. This time, Karchev the Terrible would carry me through to the end, but it was anything but a sure bet. Details after the jump.
Here’s my list:
- Decimator – 9
- Kodiak – 8
- Marauder – 7
- Juggernaut – 7
- Widowmakers – 4
- Karchev the Terrible + 5
- Total: 9+8+7+7+4-5=30pts
I made a lot of use of Karchev’s Sidearms ability, and put him at the front of a wedge formation. This, of course, made him a lightning rod for all the damage, but at the end of the day he managed to stay alive (barely). At that point, the Juggernaut swung around and pounded Amon – I have to say, I like what heavy ‘jacks do against warcasters on either end of that.
Overall, I felt that the widowmakers underperformed. It was difficult to get them into position (Stetson’s light ‘jacks made that difficult), and, admittedly I didn’t use them against the right targets (light ‘jacks instead of solos).
Also, I’m not sure the decimator was really useful. I’ll go further – I haven’t had much luck with my ranged weapons. By the time my ranged weapons were in range, it was so much more worth it to melee my target. This is something I’ll be thinking about in later games.
EDIT: Just realized that the Decimator’s dozer cannon has RoF: 2 – that’s two shots rather than just one. Still… …I’ll have to keep an eye on that in the future.
