Forging a Primarch: Part 1 – You Gotta Start Somewhere

Some time ago, I was inspired to make a primarch model for Leeman Russ – Primarch of the Space Wolves.  While it had come up from time to time, I didn’t really know what I would do for it until I found a nifty figure in a box of random models Sally received from one of the guys at her shop.

Here’s a picture

This guy really inspired me because I always assumed that a primarch should be a presence on the battlefield.  Also, they’re larger than life, so…  …Why not make them big?  In terms of Leeman Russ himself, I figured him to be wearing big armor and meleeing his enemies with whatever he had around (whether it would be his fists or that axe over there).  Modding this figure, though, seemed rather difficult, so I shipped it off to Ian (he actually has figures from the game that came from), and started looking for a new idea.  Then, I bumped into Karchev the Terrible from Warmachine: presence, check; big, check; heavily armored, check; and melee weapon, check!  I hesitated quite a bit and looked around for other options, in the end, though, I picked it up and put it together:

here’s a size comparison:

You’ll notice, the head is missing – that’s because it’s going to have the most in-depth modifications done to it (I plan on making it quite wolf-like).

So, that’s how I got started.  More details and pictures to come as things develop.
