Today’s wizard comes from XIV’s EDH deck. He’s a flying contortionist and has his blue brains splattered all over the sky, that’s right, it’s Zur the Enchanter.
I admit, I didn’t take a close enough look at this image before I started making the mosaic. So, when I checked the mosaic to make sure it came out well enough, all I could see was what appeared to be a leg, completely out of place. While I was fairly sure there wasn’t some crazy body-part-moving bug in my mosaic code, I checked to be sure from the original image. Sure enough, Zur is not just a mage, but a contortionist as well! Really, I wish I could do yoga stretches while flying, that would make my coolness factor go up, I’m sure.
Another thing I really feel like I need to point out is Zur’s staff. Now, I don’t follow the Magic novels, so this might be obvious to everyone else, but in looking at the art for Zur, I noticed the orb at the top of his staff and remembered back to my days of playing Ice Age. Doing a quick search for Zur on gatherer provides the Zuran Orb, and, you guessed it, the orbs are a match. Neat, that.
