Warmachine Journeyman – Week 5

Week five is another escalation week, with the chance to add solos and units to the army.  Since I’m playing Rhulic mercenaries, I jumped at the chance to add my favorite dwarf and his bear to my list: Brun Cragback and Lug.

Since I only took nine points last block, it just fits into the 25 point limit for this week.

Daniel’s Khadwarves (25 pts)

  • General Ossrum (28 WJpts)
    • Ghordson Basher (9 pts)
    • Ghordson Driller (10 pts)
    • Grundback Blaster (6 pts)
    • Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
    • Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
  • Brun Cragback (16 pts)
    • Lug

This week, I managed to get in two games.  The first game was against Garrett and his Khador force.  I was very excited about this game because I’m really interested to see how the Khador play under the new edition, and Garrett’s Khador list is right up my alley.

Daniel’s Khadwarves (25 pts)

  • General Ossrum (28 WJpts)
    • Ghordson Basher (9 pts)
    • Ghordson Driller (10 pts)
    • Grundback Blaster (6 pts)
    • Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
    • Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
  • Brun Cragback (16 pts)
    • Lug

Garrett’s Real Khador (24 pts)

  • Lord Kozlov, Viscount of Scarsgrad (28 WJpts)
    • Decimator (16 pts)
    • Devastator (14 pts)
    • Juggernaut (12 pts)
  • Man-O-War Shocktroopers (minimum unit – 10 pts)
VS

In the second round of the match, I feated so that I could charge with my Driller and annihilate Garrett’s Juggernaut – I really didn’t want to deal with that later in the match when it could carve a path through my smaller ‘jacks.  I also managed to unleash the Basher at his Decimator to keep it occupied and out of shooting range.  It did ok, but didn’t really slam as far as I would have liked.  On his counter strike, I remembered that my models have +3 ARM (with the exception of the Basher, which was outside my control range), which is actually pretty handy, and something I wish I would have remembered in more of my previous games.  As the game wore on though, the shock wore off, and Garrett’s Decimator really caused a fair amount of damage – were it not for me consistently failing to kill things by one hit point, I might have gotten off with fewer casualties, but in the end it was a very close match.  I finished off Lord Kozlov with one of my gunners, leaving me at 1 win to start off the week!

My second match was against Oliver playing the Legion of Everblight.  Because of issues decided upon and getting models in at the shop, points are a bit all over the place.  Oliver’s list was at 8 points with a newfound Raek, so I went ahead and downsized to my week 3 list with just the Basher.

Daniel’s Khadwarves (9 pts)

  • General Ossrum (28 WJpts)
    • Ghordson Basher (9 pts)
    • Ghordson Driller (10 pts)
    • Grundback Blaster (6 pts)
    • Grundback Gunner (6 pts)
    • Grundback Gunner (6 pts)

Oliver’s Everblight (8 pts)

  • Kryssa, Conviction of Everblight (31 WBpts)
    • Nephilim Bolt Thrower (11 pts)
    • Neraph (12 pts)
    • Raek (8 pts)
    • Shredder (4 pts)
    • Shredder (4 pts)
VS

Having recognized how sweet it is to have five extra inches of charge/slam range on Ossrum’s feat turn, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do it again against the very fast Legion of Everblight.  This time, my Driller charge target was Oliver’s Neraph (that was trying to outflank me) and my Basher’s slam target was the Nephilim Bolt Thrower (that I wanted to keep from shooting stuff).  Both worked exceptionally well, with the Driller taking out the Neraph and the Basher slamming the Nephilim 3 inches back (the minimum slam distance for him, but still worth it).  Unfortunately, I vastly underestimated the Raek – I sought to ignore him since he had Stealth and there wasn’t anything I could do to him anyway.  Kryssa feated the following turn, and that Raek managed to charge Ossrum…  …Taking him down to only a few hit points.  If it weren’t for my +3 ARM, he’d have been a dead ‘caster.  Luckily, he managed to survive the resulting continuous fire damage and his ‘jacks took out Kryssa – no off-by-one damage this time!  My closing record for the week was 2 wins and no losses, not a bad week!
