Back to Blogging

I’ve taken a hiatus on my blog for the past few weeks, so that I could get moved in to the new house, and get settled in (unpacking some things). To be honest, I haven’t really made the time as much as I could have, but I’m ready to get back into it.

So, what have I been doing with all that time I haven’t been blogging?

Pre-moving

Before Jessa and I moved into our new place, we wanted to get some stuff prepared. Namely, our builder recommended that we seal the granite and all of the grout in the house. Since we had a weekend before we were going to be moving in, that’s how we spent it. This seemed like a good idea at the time (good enough that I wish I had come up with it), and was very easy since the house was empty. We also had to put up blinds (since we’d probably want some privacy when we moved in), and hang our ceiling fans. It was a pretty crazy weekend, but looking back, I was really happy that we did it before we moved in all of our stuff.

Moving

Then, of course, we had our moving weekend. This was an incredibly busy weekend for us, and, again, I’m glad we spent it the way we did. Saturday was moving everything. Since the movers were going to show up in the afternoon rather than the morning, we were able to use the morning to organize things just a little bit more, and made the move that much smoother. I don’t know that they set a land-speed record for moving a third floor two-bedroom apartment, but we were able to get the movers in and out pretty quickly (which meant inexpensively as well), so that was nice. Then, on Sunday, I had the privilege of cleaning our old apartment which was an all day affair. I haven’t heard back from Strathmore yet (our lease wasn’t up until August 31), but we’ll see how that paid off.

Unpacking

Since we’ve actually finished moving in, there has been the unpacking to do. It’s been a bit of a job (of course, we’re still not completely unpacked), but I feel comfortable enough now that we’re mostly unpacked. The things that are left are things that we don’t use every day and I’m happy taking some time to get the unpacked just the way I want (primarily, the games and the books).

Playing Guild Wars 2

Finally, Guild Wars 2 was released last week, so I have been spending some time playing that. This past weekend in particular (it was a four day weekend without Jessa…), I spent quite a bit of time playing. I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit, and hope to have a few posts about it before it becomes old hat.

Everything Else

When I’m not doing any of the above, I’ve been doing quite a bit of other stuff too – Ian and Lisa were down for a few days, and I was able to get in some quality time with them, as well as a couple of games of WARMACHINE/HORDES; I have been watching Reaper; I’ve officially cleaned the house the first time; I’ve put up more blinds and did other house work; and, of course, working at the NSIDC has been enjoyable as always.
